One of April Farmer’s favorite quotes is by St. Augustine. “The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page.” That explains her passion for travel and sharing it with others. She says, “I love helping people discover new places, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Travel enriches a person, exposes them to new places, people, culture and ways of thinking.”
Her love of experiencing new places began as a child when her parents took her on many trips to the Outer Banks and Florida. “I grew up boating and being around water, so I especially love travel in the Caribbean and other coastal areas.” April is a Florida Keys expert, having visited around 15 times, and loves sharing her knowledge surrounding our US “Caribbean.” Other coastal US destinations April is experienced in are Charleston, Hilton Head, the Grand Strand, St. Augustine/Jacksonville and Miami/South Florida. She specializes in Caribbean travel, and is especially fond of St. Lucia. “I fell in love with its lushness, turquoise waters, and friendly people. There’s a resort for everyone, and every budget.”
It’s no wonder that she also enjoys cruising, and is a certified specialist with many of the cruise lines, including Silversea, AmaWaterways, and Windstar. “I love searching out the best possible option for a client, something that maybe they hadn’t considered or knew about. There’s so many wonderful lines that people haven’t necessarily heard of, and smaller ships offer many benefits a larger ship doesn’t,” she says.
April has a background in food and wine, having owned a catering business and even a small restaurant in Lynchburg’s Community Market a few years ago. If you’re a foodie or a wine lover, she can create a memorable vacation incorporating those aspects. “When I travel, I always research my restaurants/dining options in advance, so I love to help with dining recommendations!” She and her husband, Brandon, have been to Napa/Sonoma many times, and enjoy getting to know the winemakers and owners. She has also spent time in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and the wine country of New Zealand, both on the north island and the Marlborough region of the south island.
Creating a truly specialized vacation for her clients is April’s priority, tailoring their trip to their needs and desires. April and her husband travel as much as possible and another of her favorite quotes from Hans Christian Andersen sums it up for her. “To travel is to live.”
